Background

Tuesday

Well well well.....

I'm feeling rather sad with myself for not posting another exciting entry chock full of unusual words and bits of (self-imagined) wisdom.  Ha!

Even though I haven't even scratched the English language I've already decided to add in a few different languages when a word jumps out and grabs me - no matter it's origin. With that being said let's dive in, shall we?

  • grá - This is the Irish word meaning "love."  It's a simple and cute little thing, huh?
  • quirky an individual peculiarity of character; mannerism or foible.  (Obviously we're going to have to go back and look more closely at the word 'foible' another time, eh?)  Quirky is fun to say and fun to be.  I would say that apx. 88% of my entire family is quirky in some way shape or form.
  • meh - THIS is my current go to word of the year!  I believe I first read it in one of the House of Night book series - it was either "meh" or "easy peasy" (perhaps both) that I picked up from the series but "meh" has quickly become one of my favorite words of all time.  My sister, Casey (y'all know her - the one with the cutest little girl in the whole world who has the blog next door to mine and for whom my blog was created just to test a theory of ours ...,) well, Case gave me a t-shirt for Christmas that just says "Meh."  It's short sleeve so it's hanging in my closet eagerly anticipating the time of year when it and I can become as one to go forth into the world and spread the joy and simplicity of "Meh."
    • Oh wait - you want a definition of meh, eh?  Well, here you go:   an expression of boredom or apathy.  And get this folks - I found that definition from Dictionary.com!!  Yes, you read that right - my current favorite word is an actual defined word from a reputable online resource!!  Gosh - it just gives you warm fuzzies, huh?
Sigh.  I'm feeling good and accomplished now.  I shall send this forth to all, what, 3 of you who follow this?  Maybe... just maybe I'll find a new person that shall suffer through my drivel on occasion.  For you few, and you know who you are, feel free to share this with people who love me and won't judge me for it's random silliness.

Until next time!
Grá, Wen

Saturday

It Worked!!

As I'm sure y'all know (and by "y'all" I mean Case and Linds since they are the only ones following this blog) the testing was a success for Casey.  Which means now, in theory, I don't have to keep this blog up anymore.  BUT...!  I say - why not?  I get to babble for a few minutes and hopefully make one of you two smile.  ;)
Here are some new words to ponder:

  • Squelch:  to suppress something.  I think the word is interesting in how it sounds when it's said aloud.  To me it honestly sounds like you are squashing a bug under your shoe or thwacking a spider with a newspaper.  Say it outloud and see what you think.
  • Poltroon:  cowardly or a coward.  You know how some words will convey their message just by saying it?  This is NOT one of those words.  You say "poltroon" and I'd say "bless you?"
  • Oaf:  a clumsy or dull person.  We all know this one.  But I think "oaf" is just plain fun to both read and say.
That's about it for now, my captive audience.  Next up:  perhaps a Blog after my upcoming mini-vaca with my favorite niece and sis!!

Stay tuned for the next word entry:  I'm thinking of writing about some of the words I've made up over time and describe their definitions and origins!

...I know you are all now on pins and needles!  >:)

Sunday

Testing 1... 2... 3...

If you recall from my previous blog post I mentioned that the creation of this blog was for testing purposes.  You see, Casey has a wonderful blog that she really puts a lot of effort into but she's tired of having to email everyone when there's an update because she's never sure who really wants it.  So I created this blog and added a lovely little gadget called:  Follow By Email.  Casey put her email in there and now we're hoping that once I post this very blog post that it'll automatically email her to let her know that I posted something.  If it works then she won't have to send out personal emails anymore!

Isn't this exciting folks!?!  (Oh please... I know it's not exciting.  I'm not that delusional.  But this does serve a purpose and who knows - maybe I'll actually get into this blogging thing....)

But first:  Let me put out some new Words of Wendi - can't dismiss the meaning behind the title.  ;)

1.  Cattywampus - because it just sounds funny.
2.  Ignoramus - same reason as number 1.
3.  Jiggery-pokery - it means deceit.  This is a new one for me too - can you imagine someone using this one while they were angry?  I'd bust out laughing!!

Ok!  This is it!  I'm going to post this.  Will Casey get the notice or no?  *Cue the suspensful music*

Tune in next time for the answer!

Smiles to all!

Saturday

So.

Ok, I'm not going to lie - I created this blog to essentially see if it would solve a mystery question about my sister's blog.  So I threw out a title:  Words of Wendi because it was the first thing that popped into my head.

I guess I should write something meaningful or funny or shocking to fill you in on my deepest thoughts and fears at this point, right?

Wrong.

I called this Words of Wendi and so that's what I'm going to do for awhile.  Post my current 3 favorite words and/or phrases.  We'll see how often this will change.

Current Favs:
1.  Piffle (Look it up if you don't know it - it's especially helpful when you're in polite company but have a potty mouth thought.
2.  Love it!  (All encompassing, simple and easy.)
3.  Floccinaucinihilipilification  (Yes, that's a real word and no, I don't know how to pronounce it :)

There we go - my first blog posting.  Now let's see how well I can maintain it.

Smiles - Wendi
